The Undercity is built underground in a cave system (accessible only through some kind of portal – pipes?). The Undercity – Home to the misfits, all manner of “colorful” characters. The Overcity – home to governing bodies, most of the population. The City, where much of The Wishing Stone takes place, is divided into two parts: This world is home not to just humans but also magic creatures and monsters. By magical means, technology advanced very rapidly, turning the city from a sort of medieval world to a Victorian one in less than a century. Magic played a major role in the building of the city. The world is vaguely based on the late Victorian Era/Second Industrial Revolution (late 1800s.) However, as the world is NOT Earth, I would like to take some liberty regarding which technologies have/have not been developed.įor example, the city has (albeit crude) electricity. He has nefarious plans for the Wishing Stone. The Dark Dragon – The big bad – a dragon other than Candle who is in the city, disguised as a human. He works for government authority (yet to be determined), who want to use Candle’s treasure-sensing abilities to find magic stones. (Maybe meets them formally when Wren becomes a certified treasure-hunter? Maybe Wren works for his noble family?) He’s analytical, sometimes overly-formal, and finds thrill in breaking the rules (but is sometimes nervous to do so.)Ĭaptain of the Guard – Head of the search to find the rumored dragon in the city (aka Candle). Noble-Boy gets wrapped up in adventures with Wren and Candle. He also has a close relationship with his Grandmother, who has forsaken city life to live in a reclusive cabin in the woods. His sole companion is his Butler – his coconspirator who helps him sneak out from the manor/castle. He’s often is overlooked within his family and feels lonely. Noble-Boy – The privileged son of a government official and the youngest of many siblings. She’s cryptic, sassy, and smart, but secretly needs a friend. She and Wren don’t get along, and Wren goes to her for help grudgingly and only in most desperate of times. She’s not a straight out antagonist – more like neutral chaos. She’s an information broker – the crows bring her news from all of the city, so she knows almost everything that happens. She has the ability to speak to crows, who act as her spies. He makes gadgets that help Wren as time passes.Ĭrow-Talker – An “opposite” of Wren. Although he sometimes lacks confidence in his abilities, he is very smart. He’s clumsy, a bit scatter-brained, but lovable and optimistic. His ancestors were famous inventors responsible for much of the society’s technology, but he is struggling to live up to the family name. He maintains the Undercity’s clocktower where both he and Wren live.

Inventor Man – A sort of pseudo-parent figure to Wren since her father’s disappearance.
